Origin: English
Period: Late Victorian
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1895-1910
Base Diameter: 6.25 inches
Height: 20 inches
The saddler made blue canvas cylindrical artillery shell carrier having two reinforced bands and hand painted gilt and polychrome Royal coat of arms, survives from the last quarter of Victorian period England.
There is some wear to the royal coat of arms which is rubbed to the whole, the carrier having been picked up and put down countless times, whilst structurally the piece is sound with no major structural issues. The canvas handle is present but is un-attached at one end.
These shell carriers are more commonly found painted in red, orange and cream and the blue variation is far scarcer.
Could now be used in any number of ways, think umbrella stand for instance; hugely decorative.
