D.I.C.E. Awards 2022 winners include Mario Golf: Super Rush and Pokémon UNITE

Last night, the 25th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards took place in Las Vegas during the week-long 2022 D.I.C.E Summit. Organized by The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, games released in 2021 were nominated in 23 different categories. And, according to IGN, “[t]he show also honored NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon, who was the 2022 AIAS Hall of Fame inductee, and Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award.”

While the evening’s favorites were Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (four wins), It Takes Two (two wins, including Game of the Year), Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (two wins), Returnal (two wins), and Lone Echo II (two wins), Nintendo did win a couple of awards too.

Mario Golf: Super Rush won Sports Game of the Year, beating out EA SPORTS FIFA 22, NBA 2k22, Riders Republic, and The Climb 2. And, while technically also on Nintendo Switch, Pokémon UNITE secured the Mobile Game of the Year award.

Surprisingly, Nintendo did lose out on Family Game of the Year. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart managed to beat out Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise, Mario Party Superstars, and Warioware: Get it Together. Cozy Grove was also nominated for the category, and while it wasn’t developed by Nintendo, the game did launch on the Nintendo Switch.

You can view all this year’s winners on The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences’ official site.
